The Worn Wild Concept

Melissa Clare (GeoMythik and Starseeded Productions), the director and organiser of Worn Wild in its inaugural year believes that ‘as an event run by designers we understand the expenditure and hardship that goes into promotional activities such as fashion parades, photographic shoots, advertising and independent marketing. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the flurry, excitement and stress of a fashion parade and loose the focus on sales – especially if you’re a small scale independent operation.’

Worn Wild on the other hand is primarily a sales-driven event and very publicly provides a sales platform for the latest and greatest local and interstate alternative and independent designers.

Melissa’s own motivations to mastermind such an event lay in the trials and tribulations of being a wholesaler. ‘In wholesale buyers and stockists only choose a selection from each range. They choose what the customer gets to see and therefore the image that is presented to the public. Several independent design companies are stepping around this by setting up their own websites and domain shops, however the notion of buying off the internet is still fairly new and has its drawbacks. The general public still prefer to try on garments, to assess the design against their individual shape, to touch the fabrics and feel their aesthetics before they make a purchase.’ This is how the ideas for Worn Wild sprang forth.

Worn Wild is a new community event which proudly serves to raise the profiles and expand the markets and sales of local and interstate Australian designers and Aussie made products and services.

Its edge is subcultural, the flavours are diverse - rocker, raver, goth, flower powered, punk, cyberstyled, metal, emo, lolita, clubstyle, corsetted, burlesquey and general street-style.

Worn Wild strives to deliver a range of alternative material-culture items to support such fussy fashionable appetites.

For customers it’ll be a chance to experience a different world of design, feast on a plethora of exciting and inspiring eye candy, find new items which will create an individually tailored twist for their wardrobe and proudly support their local industry. We’ll put them in face-to face contact with designers, new products and specialist services. There’ll be clothing, jewellery, hair artistry, accessories, gifts and even manchester!

For designers it’s a chance to make direct sales, product test, gain feedback and a new dedication of fans. The event will also establish new stockists for many of our local and Australia wide shops and boutiques as buyers are already gearing up to take stock of the wide range of talent on display.
